Arizona State University’s School for the Future of Innovation in Society (SFIS: sfis.asu.edu) announces a hiring initiative in the area of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (JEDI) in science, technology and innovation (STI). We seek applications for four tenured/tenure-track faculty openings to start in academic year 2021-22. We are particularly interested in candidates who have an exceptional track record in scholarship, education, and engagement and who will work with a vibrant and diverse faculty to grow programs of work with national and global recognition and impact.

Public Engagement with Science, Technology, Innovation

We seek a senior faculty member who has important experience and expertise in engagement with under-represented and/or excluded communities. The approach to public engagement may be as varied as informal education, citizen science, art/science collaboration, public deliberation, participatory technology assessment, grassroots innovation, etc. The successful candidate will also have considerable expertise in including and working with Black communities, Indigenous communities, and/or people of color; and/or rural or economically excluded populations.

The successful candidates should have expertise in scholarship, mentoring, and/or community engagement in areas of science, technology, and innovation with a firm commitment to racial justice. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: digital justice, innovation and equity, just/diverse futures, equity and representation in STEM, racial justice in smart cities/communities; public interest technology/tech-for-good, intersectional STI, decolonial STI, engineering and technological design for equity and social justice, STI in the Southwest borderlands region, and STI and indigeneity.

Just and Sustainable Energy Transitions

For this position, shared with ASU’s School of Sustainability (SOS), we seek applicants who bring innovative analytical, theoretical, data, visualization, or modeling approaches to research and teaching on transitioning from fossil fuels to sustainable energy systems, with a particular emphasis on questions of justice, equity, diversity, and/or inclusion. Specific areas could include considerations of markets, labor, policy, race and gender, environment, democracy, poverty, and inequality. We are especially interested in candidates who explore questions of difference (e.g., in perspectives, values, experiences, practices, institutions, arrangements, outcomes, impacts, or opportunities), within or across communities, societies, and economies, and their implications for just and sustainable energy transitions.
